Helmsley Building Makes the New York Times

Lumenpulse’s installation at the Helmsley Building (230 Park Avenue) was featured in last Saturday’s Style section of the New York Times. Bill Cunningham’s Evening Hours column singled out the building’s iconic Beaux Arts façade, which had been lit in the colors of the French flag following the attacks in Paris.

Designed by Philadelphia-based The Lighting Practice, the Helmsley Building’s dynamic lighting system uses over 700 color-changing luminaires from the Lumenbeam and Lumenfacade families.

“We are helping people rediscover this building,” Al Borden, principal at The Lighting Practice, said at the time of the lighting design’s unveiling in 2012. “Good lighting should produce an emotional sensation that elevates the experience of the project. It should help to turn a location into a place that makes the visitor want to return.”
