Lumenpulse Illuminates Light Origami at Canal Convergence 2016
Installation at Scottsdale art festival uses Lumenbeam Large Color Changing Luminaires
"Light Origami," the art installation by renowned artist Masakazu "KAZ" Shirane (co-produced by Reuben Yong) has used Lumenbeam Large Color Changing luminaires in its United States debut. The highly anticipated installation is part of this year's Canal Convergence | Water + Art + Light (Feb 25-28), an interactive arts festival in Arizona presented by the Scottsdale Public Art and Salt River Project.
"Canal Convergence continues to grow each year, both in the number of installations as well as building the audience's overall experience," Said Donna Isaac, Scottsdale Public Art Director. "This year's event, led by a group of international and local artists, brings exciting, renowned installations to Scottsdale for the community and visitors to enjoy."
Originally commissioned for Vivid Sydney 2015, Light Origami is made from 300 aluminum composite panels within a steel external frame. Fully life-size, the dome creates a giant, three-dimensional, interactive kaleidoscope, which viewers are invited to enter. The installation uses four Lumenbeam Large Color Changing luminaires with a narrow, 20-degree beam angle to illuminate the exterior of the dome, making it visible along the banks of Arizona canal from a distance.
Canal Convergence will be open until February 28. For more information, please visit canalconvergence.com.
