Illuminating the path toward a more sustainable future
Illuminating the path toward a more sustainable future
We're on a mission.
LMPG is dedicated to illuminating the path toward a more sustainable future. Through innovation, excellence, and a relentless drive to reduce our ecological footprint, we aim to lead the lighting industry in environmental practices. Our mission is to design and manufacture products that not only enhance built environments but also safeguard the natural one, ensuring that our solutions are as beneficial for the earth as they are for our clients.
LMPG pledges to prioritize environmental and social responsibility and exceptional quality, value, and performance that contribute to a healthier planet for generations to come. We will do this with the highest level of transparency, measured and reported through globally recognized sustainability programs and certifications.
Sustainability Team
Sustainability Team
LMPG has assembled more than 35 of its most influential leaders from all eight brands who are passionate about our Sustainability initiatives. Our leaders represent product development, operations, sales, marketing, purchasing, and the executive team, all empowered to implement and execute a meaningful, measurable, and impactful Sustainability program. By leveraging the knowledge and best practices of our individual brands, LMPG has the ability to multiply our efforts and results.
Sustainability Programs
We stand against greenwashing and have chosen to build our Sustainability program on globally recognized programs that have a measurable positive impact on our environment and people through transparency and reported results. LMPG strives to lead by example and inspire all lighting manufacturers and suppliers to take a similar approach.
Sustainable Design
Designing for sustainability in the lighting industry involves a multifaceted approach that considers, environmental impact, energy efficiency, and human well-being. It begins with the selection of materials and components that are eco-friendly, recyclable, and have a minimal carbon footprint. By adopting sustainable design principles, the lighting industry can contribute significantly to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving natural resources, and creating healthier and more efficient built environments for current and future generations.
1. Energy Efficiency
Our engineers and designers are committed to enhancing luminaire efficacy, achieving over 165 lumens per watt for indoor products. Additionally, LMPG is pioneering energy-efficient DC-DC and DC microgrid projects that significantly reduce wiring and conduits, minimize failure points, and provide more cost-effective power distribution. We believe DC power solutions are the future of power distribution, with a high potential for achieving net-zero energy status.
2. Safe & Healthy Materials
All building materials, including luminaires, have an impact on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). Poor IAQ from toxic chemicals in building materials can contribute to acute health problems, making the selection of safe and healthy materials an important design decision. LMPG brands are committed to communicating the materials used through the Declare Program, championed by the International Living Future Insitute (ILFI). Our goal is to Declare all new products, striving for Red List Approved status. Our selection of safe materials also maximizes the recyclable content of the luminaire when it eventually needs to be repurposed.
3. Optical Control
Optical control can have as great an impact on energy efficiency as output and performance metrics, such as lumens per watt. LMPG's product development teams prioritize precision optics that strategically place light where it is needed. This focus on optical control minimizes the number of fixtures required to achieve optimal light levels, while reducing project costs and energy consumption. Optics also play a critical role in maximizing the performance of a luminaire, as measured by optical efficiency and efficacy. LMPG brands develop specific optics for every product line to exceed industry benchmarks in efficacy and set the standard for placement control, even earning Dark Sky certification for numerous outdoor products.
4. Embodied Carbon
At LMPG, our brands have begun to measure the embodied carbon of our products - a vital first step to reducing the greenhouse gases that products cause to be emitted through their lifecycle. We are using the TM65 standard for measuring and reporting embodied carbon. Some LMPG brands use materials with lower embodied carbon, such as low-carbon aluminum extrusions, made from 75% post-consumer recycled aluminum and produced using renewable energy. Since there is a direct correlation between the amount of materials used in a luminaire and its embodied carbon, LMPG focuses on dematerialization to minimize raw material consumption while maintaining elegant architectural designs with exceptional performance.
5. Lighting Controls
Lighting control systems reduce energy consumption by adjusting lighting based on occupancy, time of day, and available natural light. Luminaire lifespan increases when controls dim or turn off fixtures when not needed, lowering maintenance and replacement costs. Optimized lighting impacts employee engagement, productivity, health, and wellbeing by adjusting placement, intensity, color temperature, and other parameters. LMPG brands offer a range of in-house control solutions that integrate with most widely used systems, including wireless controls that minimize the need for ethernet and low-voltage wiring. These wireless controls not only cut installation time and costs but also reduce a project's carbon footprint by minimizing the mining and energy required to produce wiring materials.
6. Lifetime
Long-lasting products enable prolonged use, which helps to slow resource consumption and offset the embodied carbon of every luminaire produced. As a part of our commitment to sustainable development, we design longevity into our products, by utilizing proven components, building in durability, and creating timeless designs. LMPG products far surpass the L70 industry standard of 50,000 hours, often achieving L70 greater than 200,000 hours and L90 greater than 50,000 hours. In fact, LMPG brands offer up to an 11-year warranty, reflecting our commitment to reliability through superior design, robust testing schedules, heat management, and the use of high-quality electrical components.
7. Dark Skies
LMPG's outdoor lighting strategy focuses on achieving a harmonious balance between environmental conservation, safety, and public health goals. We prioritize energy-efficient technologies and best-in-class optical control to minimize light pollution and trespass, contributing to ecological preservation and reduced energy consumption. Our approach to outdoor lighting creates nocturnal environments that are not only visually appealing and safe, but also contribute positively to the overall quality of life in communities. LMPG's brands focused on outdoor and area lighting have achieved Dark Sky certifications for several product lines, with additional products in the certification process.
Sustainable Operations
With multiple Centers of Manufacturing Excellence, we are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our production operations and offices. LMPG's phased approach first involves reducing production and jobsite waste, followed by initiatives to reduce GHG emissions at our facilities and across our supply chain, both up and downstream.
Recycling Rate
Our goal is to maximize the reuse, recycling, and repurposing of waste generated by our vertically integrated manufacturing centers (CMEs), while minimizing landfill disposal. We aim to recycle or repurpose all waste types, including metals, plastics, cardboard, and wood byproducts. Each CME tracks and reports these metrics monthly. We devise and execute action plans to ensure at least a 10% annual reduction in landfill waste.
Recyclable Packaging
Our goal is to eliminate all packaging materials that cannot be recycled at the jobsite during installation, such as styrofoam and certain plastics. Our Centers of Manufacturing Excellence (CMEs) measure and report the percentage of non-recyclable packaging content quarterly and implement action plans to eliminate these materials.
We design our packaging to minimize disposal needs at jobsites while ensuring product protection during shipping. Reducing packaging materials streamlines jobsite clean-up for contractors and electricians, and reduces both recyclable and landfill waste.
Water Conservation
Vertically integrated production operations often require significant water usage, particularly in processes like CNC machining and parts cleaning before powder coating. Our Centers of Manufacturing Excellence (CMEs) have established baseline water usage metrics and are implementing action plans to achieve a 5% annual reduction in water consumption.
