Designboom Covers the Sölvesborg Bridge

“Glowing” lighting scheme by Ljusarkitektur finds appreciative audience on popular design website

Designboom recently posted a feature on the lighting design at the Sölvesborg Bridge, the longest bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Europe. The site explored the work of Swedish designers Ljusarkitektur, who set out to develop a lighting scheme that would enhance the bridge’s landmark status, without leaving a negative impact on the local habitat.

Ljusarkitektur used Lumenfacade Color Changing luminaires with a narrow optic to graze the suspension cables and light the distinctive arches. The fixtures were mounted on the outside of the bridge, with deep, custom glare shields hiding the light sources and shielding pedestrians and residents from glare.

“We’ve had good experiences with Lumenpulse on previous projects, and when tested, their fixtures delivered the results we wanted,” said Lina Färje, lighting designer at Ljusarkitektur.

The Sölvesborg Bridge found an appreciative audience on Designboom, which has also included the innovative project on its list of the Top Ten Bridges of 2013.
