City Point Brooklyn
Lumenpulse helps to enhance the curb appeal of Brooklyn's multi-functional megaproject, City Point, and catches the eyes of both passersby and hardened shoppers alike.
City Point, which can easily be described as the flagship of Downtown Brooklyn's transformation, is currently the largest food, shopping and entertainment destination in the storied New York borough. Its towering architecture contains retail, residential, and office space at the corner of Flatbush and Fulton, the heart of Brooklyn's busiest retail corridor. Focus Lighting were tasked with designing an exterior lighting strategy that would increase City Point's curb appeal and draw traffic into its retail spaces and restaurants.
Focus Lighting has been involved with the City Point project for some time, working with multiple interior designers and architects, and have completed sections of the interior lighting design as well as the full exterior. "The client wanted an exterior design that interfaced with the lighting schemes of the streets and buildings surrounding City Point while refreshing its own existing exterior illumination," says Ryan Fischer, Lighting Designer, Focus Lighting. "The luminaire's performance stood out right away," added Fischer, "The Lumenfacade luminaires supplied us with the foot-candle coverage we needed on such a tall building while remaining discreetly integrated with the structure."
While the design centers around catching the attention of passersby, it is by no means audacious. The soft, even coverage of the Lumenfacades, using a 3000k temperature, accentuates the terracotta tiles in an elegant glow. Focus Lighting's design enhances the City Point exterior in a singular way, the structure stands out amongst its neighbors but never drowns them out, the building's wedge, its primary architectural draw, beckons the eye without blazing into it.
"I've watched people's reaction to the design while standing across from it. People are interested, they stop, soak it all in before moving to enter. We're quite pleased with the result," says Fischer.
